After determining Norway’s Issolei was my favorite discovery of 2021, I realized I should have called it a tie with Cosmic Putrefaction.

Cosmic Putrefaction carries the torch for technical, psychedelic, space-themed death metal, along the lines of Blood Incantation more than Wormed, but all three bands have given us multiple albums that I consider gems. I guess I really enjoy sci-fi death metal, especially when it has a touch of oldschool tradition that crosses over into the dark and psychedelic realm.
